Autumn
in New England and Canada
by Mary Morales
For your cruising enjoyment and for the
first time, the Angeles Chapter/Sierra Club has scheduled
a Fall Colors fundraising cruise to the East Coast in September
2010. Sailing from the port of New York, you will long remember
the sights, sounds and scenery of wonderful destinations along
the way.
Times Square, Central Park, Liberty Island,
Wall Street and Broadway all evoke sentimental memories from
a few years ago. As Sinatra crooned, “Come be a part
of it, New York, New York.” Can’t get any more
exciting than to begin our adventure in the Big Apple! We’ve
planned a pre-cruise highlights tour package (details to come)
before embarking September 19th on NCL’s Norwegian Dawn.
After a day at sea while sailing up to the
modern city of Halifax, prepare to savor centuries-old Canadian
heritage in tiny seaside enclaves that brave the fierce Atlantic
Ocean, withstanding the test of tides. Our northern neighbors
know well what being hearty means.
As our cruises continue on to St John on
the Bay of Fundy, disembark to visit picturesque fishing villages
and beautiful towns like St Martins and St Andrews-by-the-Sea.
Farmers markets offer up fresh produce and wonderful handmade
holiday gifts for those back home.
Bar Harbor is home to lobster fishermen
who bring that succulent crustacean to tables across the world.
But there is much more to this community. Nearby Acadia National
Park is one of the most visited parks in the United States.
Historic Boston, home of the Old North Church,
the USS Constitution and other landmarks will beckon you to
explore while immersing yourself in the challenges and triumphs
of America’s Revolutionary War.
Before sailing back to New York, our home
port, we make a stop in Newport with its extravagant mansions
and heady lifestyle. This is the playground of America’s
wealthiest. Oh, to be part of old money!
So there you have the itinerary and interspersed
in all this charm, architecture and coastal beauty is what
we came for…the colors of a New England autumn. Sugar
maples, dogwoods, birches and gum trees shed their leaves
of crimson, fiery orange, bright yellow as precursors of wintery
days ahead. Come celebrate the end of one season and the beginning
of another with friends and family on this well-priced Angeles
Chapter cruise.
